The video ‘Schizophrenogenic Mother’ is an animated abstraction of data received at The Laser Interferometer Gravitational-Wave Observatory (LIGO). The data are gravity waves generated when two supernovas collided twenty million years ago, forming a rip in the universe’s space/time. Before we understood the DNA markers for schizophrenia we believed that schizophrenic children were created by their mother’s behavior. In the same way we think we understand how space/time is ripped by supernovae collisions, yet we will tomorrow discover that our model of the cause and effect of this physics was really something else.

This video is a set of frames from videos that use an expanded set of LIGO data from their 2019 database. It was created for the Generative Art Project show ‘When Stars Collide’.
